Random Sport Generator

Spin a sport to try, watch or play in PE class.

How to use the Random Sport Generator

Twenty-four sports mixing team games, individual events and outdoor activities. Teachers use it to choose a PE unit or a research topic, and families use it to pick something new to try at the weekend.

  • In PE class, remove anything the school has no equipment or space for before you spin.
  • For a research project, give each student one sport with Elimination mode on so nobody repeats.
  • Pair it with the Random Team Generator to split the class once the sport is chosen.

Why twenty-four sports across such different categories

Football and basketball sit alongside archery and rock climbing, team games next to solitary individual events, mainstream sports next to niche ones. That spread is deliberate. A PE unit or a family's weekend search benefits from genuine variety, not a shorter list of the five sports everyone already thinks of first.

Removing what a school genuinely cannot support

Delete any sport the school has no equipment, space or facility for before letting students spin, rather than after a class gets excited about a result nobody can deliver. Rowing or surfing might be impractical for most schools regardless of how good a PE unit idea they make.

Assigning research topics without repeats

Turn on Elimination mode before a whole class spins, one turn each, so every student gets a different sport to research and nobody duplicates another's topic. This covers more of the twenty-four sports than a free-choice assignment typically would, since free choice tends to cluster around the same few popular sports.

Using it to split a class once the sport is chosen

Once the wheel decides which sport a unit will focus on, pair it with the Random Team Generator to split the class into teams for that specific sport. Keep the "what" and the "who's on which team" as two separate, sequential decisions rather than solving both at once.

Using it as a family weekend-activity generator

Spin informally as a family or a group of friends looking to try something new, rather than defaulting to the same weekend routine every time. A result like fencing or badminton, something nobody in the group has tried, often turns into a more memorable outing than whatever the group would have picked from a shorter mental list.
