About SpinWave

SpinWave is a free set of decision-making tools built around one simple idea: picking someone or something at random should take five seconds, cost nothing, and leave no room for argument. No account, no download, no trial that quietly expires. Open the page, add your names, spin.

Our mission

We want fair, visible random choice to be available to anyone with a browser — including on the older laptops, shared classroom desktops and budget Android phones that most people actually use. That constraint shapes every decision we make. The wheel is drawn on a plain HTML canvas rather than a heavy 3D engine. Pages are served as static HTML wherever possible. Nothing here needs a fast connection or a recent device.

Our story

SpinWave started with a familiar classroom problem. A teacher needs to call on a student, and whoever she picks, someone mutters that she always picks the same people. She is not doing that — but the perception is real, and it costs her the room. Handing that decision to a wheel on the projector ends the argument instantly, because the class watches the choice happen.

The existing tools mostly worked, but they were bloated with pop-ups, demanded sign-ups to save a list, or broke on a phone. So we built the version we wanted: fast to load, honest about what it stores, and free without an asterisk. Once the wheel existed, the other tools followed, because the same people kept asking for a coin flip, a dice roller and a way to split a class into teams.

Why we built it this way

Two technical choices matter more than the rest. First, every random result comes from crypto.getRandomValues(), the browser’s cryptographically secure random source, with rejection sampling to remove modulo bias — not the weaker Math.random(). If you are going to ask a room to accept a result, the result should genuinely be fair.

Second, your data stays yours. Names you type into the wheel live in your browser and are never sent anywhere unless you explicitly press "Save & get link". Even then, we store only the wheel title, the labels and the colours — never who those people are, never anything that identifies them.

Who we serve

Teachers use SpinWave to pick reciters, form groups and choose presentation order. Streamers run giveaways on camera, using fullscreen mode as an OBS source so viewers watch the draw live. Event planners draw raffle winners in front of a crowd instead of behind a spreadsheet. Office teams settle who presents first, who picks lunch, and who takes the next ticket.

Built with the Philippines in mind

Trusted by educators across the Philippines — and built for the conditions they actually teach in. Large class sizes make fair, visible selection genuinely useful rather than a novelty, and shared or ageing classroom hardware makes page weight a real constraint. We test on slow connections and small screens first, because a tool that only works on a new laptop with fibre is not much use in a public school in Cebu or Davao. Filipino teachers were the first people to send us feature requests, and the save-and-share link exists because they asked for a way to reuse the same class list next week.

The team

SpinWave is run by a small independent team of developers and educators. We are not a venture backed company and we do not sell user data; the site is funded entirely by advertising, which is why you will see clearly labelled ad units around the tools.
