Why random teams beat picked teams
Letting captains pick teams is the fastest way to make the last person chosen feel it. Random assignment removes that entirely: nobody is picked last because nobody is picked at all. In a classroom it also breaks up the same four friends who always work together, which is usually the point of group work in the first place.
The tool deals names out round-robin after shuffling, so team sizes stay within one of each other and no group is left short-handed. Paste from a spreadsheet column, an attendance list or a chat thread — line breaks and commas both work as separators, so you rarely need to clean the list up first.

Team Generator FAQ
How does the generator keep teams balanced?
Names are shuffled with a Fisher-Yates shuffle driven by cryptographic randomness, then dealt out one at a time across the teams like cards. That guarantees team sizes never differ by more than one person, even when your list does not divide evenly.
What happens if my number of names does not divide evenly?
The extra people are spread across different teams rather than piled onto one. Eleven names across three teams gives you groups of four, four and three, and reshuffling reassigns who lands in the smaller group.
Can I reshuffle if a team looks unfair?
Yes — press Reshuffle and every name is redrawn from scratch. Do it in front of the group rather than privately, so the redraw reads as chance rather than as you rearranging the teams you did not like.
Can I copy the teams into a chat or spreadsheet?
The copy button puts every team on its own line in the format "Team 1: Ana, Ben, Carlo", which pastes cleanly into Messenger, Google Chat, a Google Doc or a spreadsheet cell.
